Alex Sykes

Alex Sykes is a designer, theatre artist, and technician from St. Catharines ON. He is a passionate storyteller who primarily works with light and sound to tell stories that make you, think, laugh, cry, and wonder as these are the stories he loves himself. He has a bachelor of arts in theatre from Brock University.

Alex has worked as a lighting designer, head of lighting, and technician at various theatres around southern Ontario. Additionally he has co-created several pieces such as an immersive audio-visual storytelling experience titled Why Don’t We Together, set to tour around Southern Ontario in the summer of 2025.

Throughout his time at the National Theatre School, Alex designed several shows; in his second year he lighting designed Quiller directed by Allison Kelly and John & Beatrice directed by Danik McAfee. In his third year he worked as: lighting designer for Government Inspector directed by Krista Jackson, video designer for Jane Eyre directed by Jillian Keiley and sound designer for Salvage The Wrecked one of the New Words Festivals plays directed by Jonathon Seinen.

Throughout his studies at the National Theatre School and Brock University, Alex is incredibly grateful to have gotten the chance to work with exceptional mentors such as Paul Chambers, Leigh-Ann Vardy, Andrea Lundy, Troy Slocum, Gavin Fearon & Chris Malkowski.
