Brendan Rush
Brendan Rush is an actor, writer, and director based in Toronto.
Upon graduating from the National Theatre School of Canada, Brendan’s goal is to become a vital part of the Canadian theatre, film, and television industry. He is attracted to stories that are bold and sometimes difficult but that offer necessary glimpses of hope that allow us to smile and laugh in the face of despair. He is keen to tell stories in which everyone, regardless of many inevitable differences, can see and recognize a part of themselves. His hope is to create a meaningful dialogue with his work; and along with that comes a passionate commitment to audiences and community at large. His credo is: “we don’t make art for art’s sake, but to invite our audiences into a conversation, to propagate difficult questions in the minds of an audience of any age, to have them question the world they inhabit, and their role within it.”
While at NTS he has had the opportunity to work alongside tremendous theatre practitioners including his fellow classmates, Brian Dooley, Thomas Morgan Jones, Jovanni Sy, Amanda Kellock, Graeme Sommerville, and Marla McLean. With these artists he’s had the joy of exploring the roles of Demetrius and Flute in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Andrei in Three Sisters, Just Joey in Concord Floral, as well as mask work and puppetry in Yerma and The Neverending Story.
On graduating from NTS, Brendan is most excited to join the community of artists which make up Canada, North America, and the rest of the world. For him, growing and changing alongside the people behind the work and the community we make in the process of performing is the most important part of any professional artistic experience.
