Joline Rath

Joline Rath is a multidisciplinary artist from Saskatchewan with a rich background in technical experience. Throughout her career she has studied fashion design, worked professionally for five years as a seamstress, and specialized in furniture upholstery. Her practical understanding of how things are made inspires and refines her design work – conception to construction becomes non-linear.
Studying under Christine Neuss, Joline worked as a cutting intern for costume designer Mérédith Caron on a production of Les 3 Sœurs at Théâtre du Nouveau Monde. She plans to continue her training as a cutter and is keen to learn other hands-on skills such as millinery, shoe making, and costume breakdown.
In her time at NTS, she has worked as a set designer alongside director Alisa Palmer for Love & Information; a costume designer for The Dragonfly of Chicoutimi and New Words Festival, mentored by Josée Bergeron-Proulx and Jessica Poirier-Chang; as well as designing and curating the scenography program’s exhibition of work, in consultation with artist Alexandre Masino and exhibition designer Anne-Marie Matteau.
Recent professional experience includes work as a seamstress for designer Jean-Francois Rochefort, where she constructed costumes for large-scale productions for such companies as Disney and the Metropolitan Opera House.
