Laurel Fife
Laurel Fife is a bilingual artist (English/French) of British and mixed-Asian descent born in London, England, and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She is drawn to art that lives at the intersection of comedy and drama, seeking truth in emotional extremes while uncovering levity in even the darkest moments on stage and screen.
While honing her artistry at the National Theatre School of Canada, Laurel discovered a deep love and aptitude for classical text in addition to contemporary work, and has studied Shakespeare under Tim Welham, Quincy Armorer and Thomas Morgan Jones. She continues to be inspired by the wit, precision and social bite of the work of Shaw and his contemporaries and has had the delight of playing Diana in Diana of Dobson’s, and Cheviot in the farce Engaged under the direction of Graeme Somerville and Marla McLean. Selected NTS stage credits include Lysander and Robin Starveling in A Midsummer Night’s Dream directed by Amanda Kellock; Princess Winnifred in the musical Once Upon a Mattress directed by Jonathan Patterson; and Atreyu in the upcoming production of The Neverending Story directed by Jovanni Sy. Selected screen work includes Francesca Quinn, PI (Hallmark) and Maria and the Mennos (Yes TV).
Laurel is trained in jazz, contemporary and ballet dance and is an advanced pianist often playing by ear. She has also trained in unarmed combat, rapier and dagger under the tutelage of John Stead. Prior to NTS, Laurel was awarded the Gold Medal in Honours Theatre at the University of Winnipeg (2022).
Ready to take her work across Canada, Laurel approaches her craft with curiosity, discipline and great joy. She brings an unfiltered sense of authenticity and openness to every collaborative process and is excited to bring her distinct playfulness and presence to the room!
